3/30/05 08:14 pm - Good-ness

Aikido was supremely enjoyable. I got flipped, and went through the motions of flipping others like 30-40 times. And to top it off I was barely sore today at all!! Maybe Fife Sensei will let me take the make up classes even when i don't have classes to make up!

Academic plans etc. are settling nicely~ I will co-admit to PSU this coming fall.!

I finally purchased a personal planner~ thing. It is very nice not having to remember anything about dates other than looking at the planner.

Next week I start writing tutoring and hopefully math tutoring as well~ not that I have a ton of time for either.

Looking forward to talentshow (multiple reasons, ; )

What the hell )

Just when it seems to be settling down, life finds the need to tumble in circles turn upside down.

The universe is conspiring to break me of my procrastinatory habits.
Tonight is the second time this week I have written a paper way~ too early.
~or Maybe I just really need to start reading the rubrics more closely

NORMAL is a great movie. AND if you take its very plausible story line (even saying the transgender part was implausible (which i don't think)) then it strongly reinforces my present understanding of sexual orientation: Everyone is Bisexual; most people have a strong gender/sexual preference.

The Color Purple: Lovely movie

Both of the presentations that I busted my butt working on last night/really early this morning have been moved to Friday~ mheh it would have been nice to have been done with it.

TaiChi- I do have an A in it right now (big relief) but I willnot be taking it next term.

I am the student writing tutor for the new writing lab this and next term. It sounds more prestigious than it is, but I'm happy.

3/7/05 06:04 pm - Gender Bender?

lol. Today was the first time in at least a decade that a sober person has questioned my gender. Here's the scenario:
(Doorbell)
(I open the door)
Shad: Hello
Random person: Hi, I have subpoenas for Cheryl and Ben... are you Cheryl?
Shad (dead serious): no.
Random person: (nervous chuckle) oh.. hehe sry...... ..........

Glorious weekend at the beach with wonderful people. And now back to reality/vortex of oblivion/cesspool. I knew when i left on Friday that i was going to be returning to a ton of homework, but luckily i was able to forget about it all the way until today. 5 papers due tomorrow. 5 papers i need to write tonight. I have gotten the big momma' done, so 4 shorter ones and then I will sleep.

Which reminds me that I am actually surpisingly able to function on one hour of sleep, as friday showed me~ hopefully i won't have to try that talent again for a long time.

Mantra:
Last week before finals...Last week before finals...Last week before finals...Last week before finals...Last week before finals...

p.s. Argh. Wonderful things are threatening to squeeze eachother out of the coming weekend. Please let all of them fit!

2/25/05 12:36 am - Letter to the Editor (CCC's The Print)

Ok, I'm nervous about sending this in (too late i already did) 'cuz it would really suck if i was somehow wrong somewhere, but this is what I have sent in:

Meaningful Social Security Reform-
Thank you for touching on Social Security Reform in your February 23rd article. However, I was annoyed that neither of the two columnists [note to editor: should you decide to print this, please feel free to replace 'columnist' with the correct term] wrote about a very simple, and for most Americans, pain free solution to any social security problem, present or future. The solution is changing the regressive nature of the present system. Here is a brief example to help people understand: Dudley makes $45,000 a year; under the present system, he pays $2,790 a year in payroll taxes (social security). Donna makes $90,000 a year, she pays $5,580 a year in payroll taxes (exactly double what good 'ol Dudley pays). Jaime makes a whopping $180,000 a year. Any guesses how much he pays in payroll taxes? Answer: $5,580 (the same amount Donna pays). The problem becomes even more clear with Janet; she make $1,000,000 a year, and like Jaime and Donna, pays exactly $5,580 in payroll taxes. Social Security is set-up so that anyone who makes $90,000 a year or more is treated as if they were only making $90,000 when it comes time to pay payroll taxes. Were we to remove the $90,000 ceiling that is currently shielding the rich from paying their fair share, ALL social security solvency problems would evaporate overnight. As I said, this would be completely painless for the average American, who makes about $43,000 (US Census 2003). So what is keeping this unfair tax system in place? Ask your millionaire congressional representatives the next time you see them.

Sincerely,
Shad Downey

2/24/05 07:01 pm - Day @ PSU

I loved being at PSU today. It was a divine vision of a beautiful future. If I had a million dollars, I would just attend PSU. Going back to CCC was really wierd. Well, if there was any faltering-ness in my motivation, it has been completely erased. I also greatly enjoyed the fine summer day we just had.
